学生時代、音楽も勉強もエリートコースから脱落し夢破れ、
一日中部屋に引き篭もり、親とも一切会話せず、漫画ゲームアニメパソコン三昧。
典型的なダメ人間の無職ニートになって人生終わったはずの、
「とあるアキバ系オタクの超演奏活動物語」
Giving up on music and studies, this dispirited boy turned into a typical NEET, locked in his room. He did not talk to anyone, not even his parents, and spent all of his time reading comics, watching anime, and playing video games. Yet from those hopeless conditions, a loser otaku went on to become a world-famous performer. This is the story of “A Certain Nerdy Virtuoso.”

ディープな萌系作品にまで手を広げていたニート時代に、人生を変える作品に出会う。
パソコンゲーム作品(key)に衝撃を受け、演奏したい!と思い立つ。
最初は音すらまともに出ない楽器演奏を約10年ぶりに再開。
聴かせる同志をネットの世界に求め、パソコンでの録音編集投稿を始める。
「TAM」の名前で楽曲投稿し、作品を愛する同志と音を通じた交流の喜びにハマる。

Before 2003
As a moe-addicted NEET, his life was changed when he played a particular PC game by Key. He was so moved by it that he felt a desire to perform its music. Picking up an instrument for the first time in nearly 10 years, he took to the Internet to find an audience for his recordings and uploaded them under the name “TAM.” The positive feedback encouraged him to continue.
*Little did he know that 7 years later, he would perform for Key officially. Σ(゚Д゚)
2004年
演奏をリアルで伝えたくなり、一人で路上ライブ、演奏動画投稿開始。
最初はまったくの無名、演奏クオリティもブランクがあり素人レベルだったが、
前代未聞、世界初のオタク曲専門バイオリン演奏者(Net調べ)として全国世界に様々な反響を得る。
当時、動画で顔を出してのオタク音楽活動は日本で数人しかおらず、クラシックでは世界初。

He performed on the streets and started uploading video performances to the Internet. Though at first a nameless amatuer, his repertoire of music from otaku-centric works was unprecedented at the time (according to online research) and made waves across the entire world. Additionally, he was one of the few Japanese otaku performers to reveal his face, and the first classical violinist.

同人二次創作活動公式OKなPCゲーム(Key,東方,ひぐらし等)中心に、

He started the doujin music circle, “TAMUSIC.” Focusing on franchises that formally allowed the sale of fanworks (Key, Touhou, Higurashi, etc.), its goal was to reimagine music from his favorite anime and game series.

Otaku news sites took notice and wrote articles about him. In order to give listeners better acoustics, he began performing in concert venues. He might have even been the first to organize entirely fan-operated concerts on a regular basis!

唯一無二の演奏団体実績が買われ、1000人規模のイベント内ライブ企画。
当時、例大祭・紅楼夢に次ぐ3番目の規模の東方イベント舞台演奏をプロデュース主演。

With his unique brand of music, he held a performance as part of a Touhou doujin event attended by roughly 1000 people. At the time, it was the third-largest Touhou convention series after Reitaisai and Koromu.
イベント限定で頒布した手焼きCDは買い求める人が長蛇の列となり、
机と列をイベント会場外に緊急移動するほどの大盛況となる。

A massive line formed to purchase his event-exclusive CDs, and part of it even had to be moved outside the venue. News of the incredible success reached all corners of the country, and he began selling pressed CDs at consignment shops.
世界最大の同人即売会コミックマーケット初参加にして壁配置。
同人委託ショップはじめての月間ランキング1位。
クラシック演奏系同人音楽では一気に日本最高峰の人気サークルとなる。
TAMUSIC’s first appearance at the legendary Comic Market (Comiket) convention saw him being placed by a wall, a position reserved for highly popular circles. One of his CDs that took the top sales spot that month at a major doujin consignment store. Nearly overnight, he had become the most famous classical-style doujin musician.
頒布実績が認められ、店舗数日本一の同人ショップ初の公式店舗内演奏。
後に全国6都市でインストアライブを継続的に行う。(オタク演奏者日本初?)
Recognizing his achievements, one of the larger doujin store chains asked him to tour for their first in-store concerts. He performed at six different locations across Japan, possibly the first for any otaku musician.

2007年
年間18枚のCD制作+年12回のイベント参加+年3回のコンサート主催主演+120動画投稿。
TAM活動に加えて「無遅刻無欠勤、有給ゼロ」のサラリーマン仕事+身内手伝いもこなす。
TAM/TAMUSIC企画への制作参加協力者が100名を超える。
2007
Over the course of the year, he produced 18 albums, joined 12 doujin events, organized 3 concerts, and uploaded 120 videos. To help him keep up with his doujin activities along with maintaining his full-time job (without vacations), he had a team of friends and family who assisted him in a variety of tasks, and a total of more than 100 individuals had some involvement in TAMUSIC.

That Comiket, his circle was placed in front of a shutter door, given to the biggest and most popular circles. His releases also placed high in store sales rankings, and he continued to perform all across Japan.
12月末、皆勤仕事納め翌日+公開主催主演ライブ収録当日+コミケ前日に倒れる。
At the end of December, the day after achieving perfect attendance for the year at his job, the day before Comiket, and the day of recording for the next concert, he collapsed from exhaustion.
2008年
地元名古屋で最後のライブ単体単独主催主演(イベント後)聴衆800名。

In his hometown of Nagoya, he performed in TAMUSIC’s final solo concert after a doujin event, with 800 in attendance.
スケジュール予定を全て消化した後、仕事もTAM活動も一時休止休養。
同人サークルとしての団体イベント運営やチーム制作を一度停止させ、
身内(家族)の住むヨーロッパへ研鑽兼ねて短期滞在+路上ライブ。
Having finished with his schedule, TAM took a vacation from everything to recuperate.
All doujin activities were placed on hold, and he flew to Europe to meet family, study music, and hold streetside performances.

He set a new goal for himself, to hold a 1000-person concert somewhere in the world every year. He started with his first overseas concert in Taiwan, part of a larger event. Over 1000 attended, making it the first overseas concert by an amatuer Japanese performer to exceed 1000 people (according to independent internet research). Back in Japan, he performed during a doujin event for over 2000 people, setting another new milestone (also according to independent internet research). From that starting point, he has been successful in meeting his goal every year since.

2010年
演奏音楽活動を周りに教え指導する、総合プロデューサーへ挑戦
→ボーカルプロデュース、制作チームプロデュース
女性ボーカルの育成プロデュース開始(あくまでTAM主演のバイオリン×ボーカルセッション)
DTMを使った楽曲CD制作全体を統括プロデュースし、サウンドプロデュースをメンバーに任せる。
TAM単独では、クラシック編曲、ボーカルRemix、楽器多重奏録音を商業クオリティに高める。
TAMとして2003年初めて演奏した楽曲ボーカル「Lia」さんCDで「初仕事」受け。
「Visual Art’s / key」公式仕事依頼により「完全アマチュア演奏者」の肩書きを卒業。
2010
Under the guidance of peer musicians, he attempted to become a producer, creating vocal songs and other works.
Starting from duets with female vocalists, he also used music software to add synthesized instruments to his tracks, leaving the sound production to other members. By handling much of the work by himself, he was able to improve his works’ quality to that of commercial releases. He also received his first formal commission, to contribute to an album by Lia, a singer from one of the pieces that motivated TAM back in 2003. That official request from Visual Art’s/Key lifted him from being a purely amateur performer to a professional.

He also continued his concerts across Japan. On April 29th of that year, he put on a solo performance as part of an event in Fukuoka for over 1000 attendees.
2011年
演奏音楽活動を商業仕事に繋げ、オタク作品公式参加へ挑戦
→二次創作してきた本家(Key等)限定で仕事依頼受け
鳥の詩、等の歌手「Lia」さんのCD、RemixCDへ複数参加。
東日本大震災のチャリティーCDに制作参加+Liaさんサイン。

He contributed to even more commercial works from Key and other companies, further establishing himself as a professional. He joined another album by Lia, singer of “Tori no Uta,” as well as various remix CDs. He also participated in a charity album to support recovery efforts after the Tohoku Earthquake, which was signed by Lia.

He decided to actively seek out further professional opportunities, accepting commissions from all companies involved in moe subculture.
He took a team from TAMUSIC, who was producing more than 50 songs every 5 albums, and created a new musical unit focused on original and commercial works called ALVINE.

He performed in an album of anime song covers produced and directed by Nicovideo, TV Tokyo, and Sony Music featuring songs from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star, Nichijou, and voice actors such as Minoru Shiraishi.

He also produced a CD called Key Classic, featuring classical rearrangements of historic Key songs such as the anime themes to Kanon, Air, Clannad, Little Busters, Angel Beats, and more. It was the first officially commissioned released he personally oversaw, and it was first sold at Visual Art’s Comiket booth.
It was TAM’s 100th pressed CD, and represented a return to his roots after 10 years of activity.

He distributed thousands of CDs at various events and concerts around the world. He had achieved his dream of working with the creators of the anime he so adored. And with that major accomplishment, he announced a temporary reprieve. To date, he had been performing for 10 years, played as TAMUSIC for 8 years, and released 100 pressed CDs.

TAM’s Youth
Music history – Placed in an elementary school music contest and was featured in the local newspaper and played in the concert band. Studying for middle school exams and disinterest caused him to drop it for a time.
Study history – Attended top middle and high schools that sent many students to elite universities such as Tokyo U., but slacked off due to disinterest and otaku tendencies.
Spent more than two years as an unproductive NEET absorbed in anime, comics, games, and the Internet. Had so much free time that he started making things with his computer. With persuasion from his family and other connections, he attended a boarding school in Hamamatsu and was forced out of NEET-dom. He then became an office worker at a music company and earned valuable experience, although it lacked opportunities to play music. Wanting to find an outlet, he poured himself into TAMUSIC.

At this moment, due to TAM’s own personal goals as well as the many offers from companies and organizations, particularly as a guest performer at overseas events, the objective viewpoint (compared to general artists and bands) from the audience is indispensable. These achievements are written using statistics as specific as I could attain, mostly as a way to more easily show my appeal to overseas fans, as Japanese tend to favor a more humble approach.
